I’m just like you.
I have questions. And I’m looking for answers.
Here are just a few:
- “How can I create more apps in my spare time… while working a full time job?”
- “How can I tweak my apps to generate more revenue?
- “How can I attract more users and get more downloads?”
- “What tools should I use to boost my productivity and to help me create better apps?”
I do my best to seek out answers to these questions and report back what I discover.

To take a quote from Red Green, “Remember, I’m pulling for you. We’re all in this together.”
What do I use for App Development?
For the past several years I’ve been using Corona SDK. It’s simple to use and I find it to be one of the easiest platforms to use to get started building AWESOME APPS.
I started out with Xcode and Objective C, but found it very frustrating and confusing. Since I come from a web developer background, the Lua programming language that Corona uses for its APIs under the hood is simple to understand and quick to learn.
In full disclosure, I’m currently a Corona SDK Ambassador, which gives me a few perks (not monetary compensation) in return for sharing the platform with others. But even if I wasn’t an ambassador, I’d still use and blog about Corona. I volunteered for the role because I love it and love sharing it with people!
I have an 8-5 job that I really enjoy, but I’m not convinced it has the potential to provide for my long-term financial goals or the personal freedom I desire.
So I work evenings, weekends and holidays in hopes of building a business that will help me achieve my goals.
It can be rather grueling and emotionally challenging at times to maintain this lifestyle. At best it eats into having any sort of hobbies and severely limits my available free time. Family life can be a bit of a challenge as well, so it’s nice to have an understanding wife and two patient kids (who seem to be showing an interest in game development, even at five and eight years old!)
So, what about you?
Have you wished you could hang out with people like you who understand why you put in long hours and work your butt off when you already have a full time job?
Are you looking to see what works for someone else and maybe avoid some of the challenges and failures they’ve had to face?
Then follow along and I’ll occasionally send you tactics, strategies and tools that work for me — and let you know where things have gone wrong to help you avoid my mistakes.
